Falcons Sign 7th Round Pick RB/FB Snelling

The Falcons on Thursday signed 7th round draft pick Jason Snelling to a four-year contract. Snelling played both running back and fullback at the Univ of Virgina. He rushed for 1,246 yards on 235 carries and 10 touchdowns over his four-year career at Virginia. “I think Jason has really been focused on football from the first day that he stepped in Atlanta,” said Scott Smith, his agent to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We had an opportunity to get it done sooner rather than later.”

He becomes the second draft choice to sign with the team, as LB Stephen Nicholas signed a deal back on June 15th. As far as his chances of making the team? “I can just focus on football, making the team and playing the game,” Snelling said. His shot at making the roster is a lot better with the teams somewhat lack of depth at the fullback spot. The team did not resign Fred McCrary and let Justin Griffith leave via free agency. Fullback Ovie Mughelli is the only true fullback on the roster.

“I think I’m a guy who’s able to do many things,” Snelling said. “At this level, the more you can do, it will help you. I definitely think that’s going to be a key factor in me making this team.”
