Michael Vick is being ordered by the NFL Commissioner to stay away from the Atlanta Falcons training camp until further notice. The league wants to review the dogfighting charges levied against the former Virginia Tech star. The superstar quarterback hasn’t been convicted of any crime yet, but has potentially violated the behavior policy for NFL players. When the team opens camp on Thursday, Vick will be in Richmond, Virginia for a court appearance.
Speaking of that appearance, the Richmond Police Department will close portions of two streets around the U.S. District Court building ahead of the Thursday appearance. From 6:00 Wednesday evening until 6:00 Thursday evening, 10th Street between Cary and Bank and Bank Street between 9th and 12th will be off-limits. Some animal rights groups, including the Virginia-based People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, plan to protest the Atlanta Falcons quarterback when the former Virginia Tech star appears to face federal charges for his alleged involvement in a dogfighting operation at his Surry County home.
