Falcons Continue to Search for QB Options

Brunell

If the Falcons cannot work a deal out for one of the Raiders QB’s (Andrew Walter or Josh McCown), there is still hope that the team will be able to grab a veteran signal caller before the start of the season on September 9th. There will be a few veteran quarterbacks that will see the chopping block come cut down day, and Pro Football Weekly says that two of them – Anthony Wright or Mark Brunell, could find their way to Atlanta to play for new coach Bobby Petrino and the Falcons. Despite Joey Harrington not playing all that bad for the Falcons, the team knows they have to be aware of the other signal callers out there and likely need to grab one as they become available. The team was in the running for former Bills, Browns and Eagles QB Kelly Holcomb, but Minnesota made the move giving the Eagles a 6th round pick in 2009 for his services on Monday. Wright, who is with the Giants, may very well be released, as might Brunell, who is serving as Jason Campbell’s backup in Washington. Don’t forget that the Falcons have already lost D.J. Shockley to injury this season and he is on the injured-reserve list.
