Carroll Not Interested in Falcons Job

For those Falcons fans that thought they would see USC’s Pete Carroll roaming the sidelines at the Georgia Dome this season – think again.  After reports surfaced on Wednesday that the Falcons and owner Arthur Blank were trying to convince Carroll to come in for an interview, it now appears that he successful college coach is not interested in even talking about the position.

NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Carroll is not interested in coaching the train wreck that is the Falcons. “Pete looked at it last year and lost interest,” a person close to Carroll told Schefter. “Nothing is different. There’s nothing going on there. He’s not even entertaining the idea of going. Atlanta doesn’t fit at all.”

This is not a shock whatsoever, as Carroll has already had a taste of the NFL with the Jets and Patriots, and sees how different it is from coaching in college.  He would be foolish at this point to jump ship, and if he needs any other examples, just look at what Bobby Petrino did upon leaving a solid program in Georgia, and see how long he lasted.

Blank should do the right thing, and stay within the NFL ranks for both his new GM (Tom Heckert of the Eagles is still the best choice) and grab a solid assistant or coordinator (we still like Jim Caldwell of the Colts).  Blank has been burned already and left at the alter by Petrino, so why go back to that well?
