Reaction to the release of Falcons running back and beloved humanitarian Warrick Dunn continues. Head coach Mike Smith says the decision was not an easy one, as Dunn’s successes on and off the field and well-known reputation as an all-around class act made it hard to say good-bye. The release came after the Falcons agree to a $34.5-million contract with running back Michael Turner, part of a power one-two running back attack with Jerious Norwood.
Dunn, the team’s leading rusher for four straight seasons, had three 1,000-yard rushing seasons during his six years with the Falcons. Teams thought to be interested in signing Dunn include Houston, Dallas, Denver and Tampa Bay.
