Falcons Re-Sign Harrington

               Atlanta Falcons quarterback Joey Harrington

An interesting signing took place down in Atlanta on Wednesday; according to the Associated Press, the Atlanta Falcons have signed recently released quarterback Joey Harrington to a 2-year deal – one week after releasing him.  Terms of the contract were not available as of this writing.

Harrington started 10 games for Atlanta last season, but will return as the probablt backup to Chris Redman, who ended the season as the starter and has also signed a 2-year contract.  D.J. Shockley is third on the team’s QB depth chart, so nothing has really changed there.  It is curious that both Harrington and Redman signed 2-year deals; it is as clear as can be that the Falcons need to draft a QB as neither Harrington or Redman are the long-term answer.

I would suspect that they will draft a QB, and subsequently release Shockley.  But then again, the Falcons have other pressing needs, so this is mere speculation on my part.  But I don’t like the prospect of the Falcons having Harrington, Redman and Shockley as their QB’s.
