Huge Night Tonight for QB Shockley

Tonight could very well be the biggest night of QB D.J. Shockley’s professional career.  While the Falcons already know that Matt Ryan is their QB, Shockley wants his shot to be the teams third or maybe second QB, and tonight will go a long way in seeing if that is going to happen.  “It’s huge, any game I get in is huge,” Shockley said. “Anytime I get any plays is huge. I’m looking at it as an opportunity to go out and help this team. I’m looking forward to a lot of time on the field to get the chance to interact with a lot of the guys and just play.”

Shockley is going up against Chris Redman and Joey Harrington for the second and third QB spot.  Mike Smith said that Ryan will take just a few snaps, meaning that the rest of the night will go to Redman, Harrington and Shockley.  He’s played little in the first two preseason games, but tonight could be his night – or else he may be on the unemployment line come Saturday.  “He’s going to have to go out and run the offense and move the chains,” Smith said. “I think he’s going to get an opportunity to do it with our first offensive group and I think and hope it’s going to be against Baltimore’s first. We want to see production and efficiency with our offense when he’s out there, like all our quarterbacks.”
