No Contest – Falcons Win Laugher in Oakland 24-0

There was no question that the Falcons thought they could go out and win in Oakland on Sunday, but even they had to be somewhat surprised at the ease behind their 24-0 shutout of a team that looks more like the keystone cops than a pro football team.

The numbers in which the Falcons won by were downright laughable. They had 30 first downs – the Raiders – 3. They were 9-for-17 on third downs, the Raiders – 1-for-9. Here’s the biggest laugher on the day. The Falcons put up 453 yards, 252 rushing and 201 passing. The Raiders – 77. Yes, 77 yards ON THE DAY. 67 rushing, and just 10 PASSING.

That’s what a joke it was in Oakland, and frankly, after some of the close games the Falcons have had to sweat out in 2008, they will take it. Matt Ryan threw for two TD’s and 220 yards on 17-for-22 passing and a QB rating of 138.4 Michael Turner came out of his two-game slump with 139 yards on 31 carries.

Eight Falcons caught passes, with Michael Jenkins leading the way with 2 catches for 64 yards and two scores, and Roddy White had five grabs for 54 yards. It was a big day of course for the defense, as for sure All-Pro John Abraham had five tackles and three sacks with a forced fumble.

All in all, it was a game that Falcons fans would likely love to see again and again, but let’s face it, it never gets this easy in the NFL. The now 5-3 Falcons will be at home for three straight starting Sunday as they play the Saints at the Georgia Dome at 1pm.
