Week 11 Preview: Falcons Ready to Battle the Broncos

The Atlanta Falcons have turned around what was a disaster 2007, and now at 6-3 are talking about the second season as if there is a legit shot for this team to make the playoffs. And there is. This week they play host to the 5-4 Denver Broncos, a team that despite being just a game over .500 are in first place in the AFC West. They are coming off a crazy win over the Browns last Thursday 34-30.

The Falcons again took another step in the right direction with a big home win over the Falcons. Matt Ryan and his troops are looking more and more like a complete offense, and the defense played a great game against Drew Brees, picking him off a couple of times in the win, and even taking one of the picks back for a score.

This game should show off what the Faclons do best, which is run the football and make smart plays with Ryan not making the critical errors. He has thrown well at home, throwing five TD’s and no picks, while throwing for 902 yards. Last week he was 16-for-23 for 248 yards with two TD’s in the win over the Saints.

Jay Cutler threw for 447 yards with three TD’s vs the Browns in the win, but will have a much more tougher time vs the tough Falcons. He has 2616 yards this year with 18 TD’s, but he as tendency to have games where he focuses in too much on Brandon Marshall, and he has to do a better job of spreading the ball around.

The Broncos are going to be very one sided when it comes to their offense in this contest, as they have little to offer right now in the running game due to injuries. Ryan Torain is done for the year, as is Andre Hall. The team got so desperate for a back this week they signed former back Tatum Bell.

Look for the Broncos to try and turn this game into a wild shootout in which they will simply try to outscore the Falcons in the end. Won’t happen. The Falcons D is much improved, and they should be able to get a couple of turnovers, and in the end, will be 7-3 after a win as they continue to make a playoff push.
