The Falcons made a few roster moves on Wednesday by signing RB Verron Haynes and waiving WR Troy Bergeron.
Haynes, 5-9, 222 pounds, is a local product who spent his prep years at North Springs High School (Sandy Springs, Georgia). He was voted an all-city, All-Fulton County and all-area selection as a senior along with being named to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution North Fulton “Formidable Four” team. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 2001 and led the Bulldogs in rushing during his senior season (691 yards). Haynes was selected in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. In six seasons sporting the Black and Gold, he compiled 174 carries for 738 yards (4.2 avg.) and three touchdowns. Haynes also tallied 58 receptions for 429 yards and two touchdowns. Haynes didn’t play last season.
Bergeron, a three-year AFL veteran with the Georgia Force, was the waived by the team after signing with the Falcons earlier this week.
