Tony Gonzalez and Falcons Agree on One-Year Extension

Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez signed a one-year extension on Saturday, Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports.

According to Glazer, the extension is worth $7 million.

Gonzalez is earning a $5.75 million base salary in 2011 and was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2012. The 35-year-old future Hall of Famer has caught 79 passes for 867 yards and seven touchdowns this season, earning his 12th trip to the Pro Bowl.

Since being traded to the Falcons in 2009, Gonzalez has caught 232 passes for 2,390 yards with 19 touchdowns. Added to his HOF-worthy totals he posted during his 12 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, Gonzalez has 1,148 receptions, 13,330 yards and 95 touchdowns in his career. Gonzalez’s receptions are second among NFL players all-time, while his yardage and touchdowns are the most among tight ends in NFL history.

With 53 yards today, Gonzalez will pass Torry Holt to rank 10th all-time in receiving yardage and already ranks ninth in receiving touchdowns.
