Falcons Re-up Manley + Stadium Update

The Atlanta Falcons were dealt a major blow today when it was announced cornerback Brent Grimes would be out for the remainder of a season with an Achilles injury.

The roster moves the team made in the wake of the announcement hardly serve to address the major void left in the defensive backfield.

The Falcons signed offensive lineman Phillipkeith Manley to the practice squad today, filling out their roster. Manley originally made the 53-man roster, but was waived when the team transferred receiver Drew Davis from the practice squad to the active roster.

Manley replaces the briefly-held spot of fellow rookie O-Lineman Bryce Harris, who was signed to the New Orleans Saints’ active roster on Monday.

Also making a relevant announcement today was Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed. Pertaining to the cost of a new stadium, Reed estimated the complete project would cost around $1.2 Billion USD. Though the cost of the stadium alone is estimated to cost around $948 million, an upgrade to the streets and sidewalks around the proposed stadium site is projected to raise costs.

Reed also announced the city would partially sponsor such upgrades.
