Jones Big Play Late Sets Up Falcons for Winning Score in 24-20 Win Over Giants

Atlanta Falcons v New York Giants

The Falcons new look offense set the tone again on Sunday, as they marched to over 400 yards of offense in a 24-20 win over the New York Giants at Met Life Stadium.

Julio Jones caught a perfect 37-yard pass from Matt Ryan to set up Devonta Freeman’s go-ahead 2-yard touchdown run with 1:14 remaining, sealing the win and sending the Falcons to a 2-0 start.

”Every opportunity that I get, when a ball is thrown at me, I feel like it’s my job to catch it,” Jones said. ”I had 15 targets and I caught 13. I think I did OK. I wish I could have caught all 15.”

The Falcons star wide out was on fire Sunday, pulling in 13 receptions for 135 yards, the biggest being the 37-yard pass to set up the winning score.

Ryan was solid, throwing for 363 yards and one score.

Things looked somewhat bleak for the Falcons, as the Giants (0-2), built a 20-10 fourth quarter lead, but saw it slip away as the Falcons scored two TD’s to take home the win.

The game winning drive covered 70 yards, and QB Ryan made perfect decisions in leading the team down the field for the win.

Before that Leonard Hankerson caught a 10-yard TD pass to bring Atlanta within three at 20-17.

”We work on that every day,” Jones said of the fourth quarter comeback. ”It was nothing new to us. Nobody got tight. We just went out there and made plays.”

The Giants had their shots in the end, but Eli Manning misfired to two open receivers on the Giants’ final drive.

New York built the 10-point lead when running back Shane Vereen took a short throw from Manning, got past linebacker Paul Worrilow and sped to a 37-yard gain.

Three players later, New York led 20-10 as Larry Donnell made a sliding catch with cornerback Robert Alford on his back.

Atlanta though answered, scoring on the pass play from Ryan to Hankerson, and then putting the game away in the final minutes.
