Falcons Place Running Back Devonta Freeman on IR with Foot Injuries

A tough season for running back Devonta Freeman got even worse on Tuesday, as the team announced he will be placed on injured reserve after sustaining foot and groin injuries against the Steelers.

“Following the game against Pittsburgh, where Devonta injured his foot, we thought he was just having general soreness in his groin area,” said Falcons coach Dan Quinn. “As the week went on it continued so we decided to have him get some tests. It has been determined that he will need a procedure that will result in us placing him on injured reserve. We are hopeful he will be able to return this season, but we will have a better feel for that in the coming weeks.”

In his two games played this season, Freeman carried the ball 14 times for 68 yards and caught five passes for 23 yards.

During his five-year career with the Falcons, Freeman has gained 3,316 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns on 767 carries. He has also caught 198 passes for 1,605 yards and seven touchdowns.
