Three Questions About the Falcons as Training Camp Gets Closer

Following a season in which the Falcons were under .500 at 7-9, fans are anxious for the 2019 season to get going to see if this team can rebound.

Now that the calendar has turned to July, the start of training camp is closing in and things are ramping up for the franchise to get ready for 2019.

Today we take a quick look at three questions about this team as they get set to embark on what they hope will be much better and include rebounding with hopefully a playoff spot.

1. Can the D Rebound?

The Falcons defense had to be the biggest letdown for the team in 2018, as they were 28th in the league in yards allowed, and 25th in points allowed.

They allowed big plays, yards in chunks on the ground, and when the games were on the line, this unit was just not very good.

The franchise spent the offseason looking to upgrade spots and also addressing key concerns on the D, and hopefully when camp gets going it will be a new year which means a new look.

2. A Healthy Freeman

Devonta Freeman played in just two games last season before bowing out for the rest of the year with an injury, and this team sorely needs him to be 100 percent in 2019.

When Freeman is healthy, he is a key factor in the offense, and while Tevin Coleman still ran for 800 yards and the lead back once Freeman went down, there was just something missing for this team.

Watch Freeman closely during camp, and he should get plenty of work to show that he’s ready to take the #1 spot back in 2019.

3. A Repeat Performance for Jones and Ridley

Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley combined for 2499 yards between the two with 18 touchdowns, and they both had huge games throughout the season.

These two have to be right at the top of the best tandem of wide outs in the NFL, and Matt Ryan loves to be able to look for one of these two when he’s in trouble and has to get rid of the ball.

Ridley was a steal last season, and he had a great rookie season with 64 catches for 821 yards and 10 scores.

Jones put on another amazing year with eight scores, 113 grabs for 1677 yards.
