The Falcons Defense Continues to be the Downfall of the 2019 Campaign

At 1-5 this season the Atlanta Falcons have already allowed 186 points this season, which by the way is one over the next worst team in the division, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If you look at this website or others, you will see there are many theories as to why this team has yet to produce on defense which was supposed to be a huge deal this offseason, but the good news is that there is still time to turn it around.

Barley.

The pass defense has stunk, the secondary has allowed too many big plays, and overall this is a team that simply has not been able to get off the field in crunch time.

With the seat of head coach Dan Quinn as hot as ever, the team had better come up with some ways to be better on defense, or someone isn’t going to have a job much longer.

“We started last week looking at all of the stats part of it, something you don’t want to do,” Quinn said via the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

“We went back through all of the games and said which issues are we having that we can get coached and get corrected to go.”

The Falcons have not had a defense that has made plays in a few seasons, and a lot of that blame has to go on Quinn and the coaching staff.

If they can’t get this turned around, a 1-5 record is the last thing that this team is going to have to worry about.

There were some positives in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week, but overall the effort and consistency was just not there for this team to be competitive on weekly basis.

“Although there were two or three explosive plays that were in the zones, there were actually a number of techniques that were actually played quite a bit better,” Quinn said.

“We are going to push on that again (Wednesday).”

The play of the team’s defense is just one of the many issues that this team has had since they blew the lead of all leads in the Super Bowl a few years back.

The start of the defense has to come from inside, and they have to make sure to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and bring them down when they get the chance.

Missing chances on defense has been the story line of 2019 to date. As the team sits allowing 271.2 yards passing per game, which ranks 27th of 32 teams in the NFL, there’s no where to go but up it seems.

But it had better happen sooner than later.
