Caldwell, Garrett and Sparano on the List to Talk to the Falcons

The head coaching search for the Falcons is moving forward, as the Atlanta-Journal Constitution is reporting that the team will be sitting down with Colts assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell.  The interview with Caldwell will take place tomorrow, and then the team will turn its attention to Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, as he is to be in town for an interview on Friday.  Also coming in to talk to the team from the Cowboys will be offensive assistant Tony Sparano.

Caldwell is no stranger for being up for the Falcons job, as the 52-year old talked to the team last year before they made the awful mistake of giving the head coaching job to Bobby Petrino.  “Atlanta would be wise to hire him, in my opinion,” Colts QB Peyton Manning said of Caldwell.  Caldwell coached with Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay in 2001 after being the head coach at Wake Forest from 1993-2000.

As far as the search for a new general manager is concerned, the name the team seems to be focusing in on is Packers director of pro personnel Reggie McKenzie.  He was in town today to talk to the team, and while the search will continue according to the paper, McKenzie would be a solid choice for the position.  Tom Dimitroff, New England’s director of college scouting, Kansas City’s vice president of player personnel Bill Kuharich and San Diego assistant GM Buddy Nix, among others, could also be interviewed for the general manager post.
