Gonzalez Shares His Thoughts on the Saints, Playoffs

Future Hall of Fame TE Tony Gonzalez spoke to FOXSports.com senior NFL writer Jay Glazer earlier this week on “After Party.” The “After Party” is part of FOXSports.com’s ‘Lunch with Benefits’ programming. Here are some highlights of the interview.

Gonzalez on his Atlanta Falcons preparing for the playoffs and not getting ahead of themselves: “I take that leadership role on the team to make sure guys take it one game at a time and we’ve got an opportunity to get better each and every week. At this time of year and with this type of record, it’s easy for guys to be complacent to say ‘I don’t need to get in the weight room’. This is the time when you need to push even harder.”

Gonzalez on his division rival, the New Orleans Saints who the Falcons face on Monday, 12/27: “It’s going to be a great game just like it was the first time around. I can’t wait for it and hopefully we pick up a victory this week and we go into that Monday night football game with a lot of marbles on the line.”

Gonzalez on Jet’s strength and conditioning coach intentionally tripping Miami Dolphins Nolan Carroll: “That was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous. I saw his statement and he seemed sincere and apologetic but I’ve never seen anything like that. I’d say he should be hit in the pocket and suspended. That has no place in the game.”
