Report: Falcons Won’t Move Fast in a Decision Regarding Dan Quinn

The Falcons are off to another slow start this season, and many are pointing the finger at head coach Dan Quinn and calling for a change at the top spot.

Not so fast.

Ian Rapoport of reports that despite the teams’ latest slow start, the the Falcons are not in any huge hurry to make a change and fire their head coach, despite what the numbers look like.

The coach said he won’t give up play-calling duties on defense, this after a week where DeShaun Watson and the Texans offense put up a massive amount of points and yards in a win.

Here’s what Rapoport wrote early Sunday about the coaching situation with the Falcons.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank maintained an optimistic tone this week about his football operation and head coach Dan Quinn despite last week’s blowout loss to the Houston Texans.

According to people familiar with Blank’s thinking, the owner wants to see progress over the next three weeks before the Week 9 bye or changes could come, with Quinn among them.

Traditionally, Blank does not embrace midseason coaching changes. Despite the slow start to this season, the philosophy of judging at the end of the season is still the preferred approach.

With the team struggling, you have to wonder how much of ‘an optimistic tone’ Blank will keep if Quinn and the team continues to struggle.
